A submersible motor is an electric motor that can run while submerged in water. This closed motor is used in submersible pumps. It uses a submersible motor to improve and focus the pumping patterns used in this system, such as both sump pumps and water wells. It is very important that all electrical connections are waterproofed to protect them from water, as well as to prevent injury or damage to anyone working with the unit.

The typical water well needs a submersible motor to pump the water from the well. The motor is fixed to a pump and taken from the well casing. While many well contractors attach a small cable to the pump unit for lowering, some sections lower the pump unit down by the electrical cable. In both these used cases, the pump and submersible motor rest at the bottom of the body suspended in the water. A hose reaching the nipple on the pump is put to work, with the submersible motor opening water up and off the well.

Located in a basement, a standard sump pump works like a toilet valve. The pump connected to a submersible motor is installed in a small pit at the lowest point of the basement. As the water fills the pit, a rather peculiar plastic float deepening water to the toilet tank float rises and flowers a key to the pump. The pump sends water to the building plumbing and construction using a hose connected to the pump. In a larger structure, there may be more than one sump pump throughout the basement.
